TURQUOISE (USA/FRA) |

If there is a
really "international bluegrass band" no doubt it is
Turquoise, truly THE spanking new prominent band in Europe.
They've joined forces in Paris this year, emphasising vocals and
original material, while utilising their fine instrumentalist
talents.
The members of Turquoise are veterans of bluegrass music, known
for their work with Freewheelin', Bluegrass 43, The Bluegrass
Rendez-Vous, Transatlantic Bluegrass, Detour Band and others.
Turquoise presents a balanced program of original and traditional
songs and instrumentals.
Always in touch with their roots, they play acoustic string band
music the way it was meant to be played; soulful, dynamic,
rhythmic and precise.
They combine taste with ability and balance breakdowns with
excellent vocal harmonies.
They are destined to take the Bluegrass scene by storm in the
tradition of the few and the rare.
Turquoise offers a variety of instrumentals featuring
banjo,mandolin, guitar and el. bass.
Interplay between the instruments is stressed, and each tune is
guaranteed to set your feet in motion, and a sure cure for the
blues besides !
They have captured the hearts of American acoustic music fans
worldwide, making traditional music sound fresh and vital while
never straying far from its roots.
Whether singing songs from long ago or the present day, they
always deliver music with intensity and passion.
This rare combination of talent-stunning vocals and inventive
instrumentals presented in a relaxed and good-natured format
creates a musical experience you will not want to miss.
The band has already share the stage with Vince Gill, Bill Keith, Peter Rowan, Tim O'Brien, David Parmley, Nashville Bluegrass Band ....

SPECIAL GUESTS/MUSICIANS:
The fiddle player Joost van Es, leader
of the great bluegrass band 4-Wheel Drive.
Natalie Shelar : vocal, bass
Raised in Tucson/Arizona (home of Linda Ronstadt), Natalie's
musical travels have taken her across the country and around the
world.
She is a member of a wandering race that mirrors the mobility of
an artist in a musical tradition in which touring is a way of
life and eclectic song selection a personal mandate
While touring Europe in the 80's, she was asked to join the
prominent bluegrass groups Freewheelin' & The Bluegrass
Rendez-Vous.
Their unmatched rhythm and timing were absorbed and supported by
Natalie's rock-steady bass playing.
Natalie owns a full voice rich in confidence which brings
tremendous vocal flexibility to all her work with Turquoise.
In full mastery of her warm alto voice, she is able to carry a
song with conviction few can match.
Christian
Séguret (F) mandolin, vocal
Christian Séguret grew up in Southern France where his
musical development began with early mandolin and guitar studies.
Returning from a business trip to Texas, his father brought some
American recordings, and a new world opened up. Before long
Christian was digging into American bluegrass, and becoming a
versatile guitarist and mandolin player. He was influenced by
"a very broad range of music", he says, "but once
I heard bluegrass, I cast everything else aside for a long
time."
His varied musical interests have led him into roles performing
movie soundtracks as well as dozens of major recording projects.
Equally at home playing pop, country, and bluegrass, he has
performed and/or recorded with artists such as Wendy Miller and
Mike Lilly, Bill Keith, Peter Rowan, Tony Trishka, Larry Sparks,
and also with some of the most successful French mainsteam pop
artists such as folk-pop legend Hugues Aufray for whom he played
guitar for 14 years. He taught for several years at East
Tennessee State University where, together with his wife Susi
Gott, they have taken turns as Assistant Director of the Country
and Bluegrass Program. Susi and Christian also took first place
at the famous Merlefest Songwriting Contest in 1995.
Christian brings his depth of experience and brilliant technique
to the music he loves : bluegrass and related acoustic music, and
Turquoise is the perfect vehicle for his talents.
Jaan-Marc
Delon (F) banjo, vocal
From the moment Jean-Marc first glimpsed at the music of Flatt
& Scruggs and The Stanley Bros., he was irresistibly drawn to
the aching beauty of bluegrass mountain strains. Together with
his brother (also members of Bluegrass 43), they expanded the
perimeters of traditional bluegrass.
Jean-Marc has a powerful and intensely tasteful banjo style and
is proficient on acoustic guitar as well. He remains one of the
few European players with a full control of the Scruggs/Crowe
style, and he has won the famed Kerville banjo contest in 1981.
With Bluegrass 43, he toured the American Festival circuit
several years in a row, and recorded an album in nashville with
the help of Sam Bush and other noted players. He has lent his
talents to a number of artists including Kathy Chiavola, Pam
Gadd, George Hamilton V .
All of Jean-Marc's experience, afforded to only a select few
musicians, is put into play with Turquoise and his rich voice is
featured in the quartet selections.
Jean-Marie Peschiutta (F/I) vocal, guitar
Jean-Marie is one of the most celebrated singer /guitarist to
have made its way into the European music scene and has turned
awesome facility on acoustic and electric guitar into a
far-ranging career as a singer/guitar player.
Born of Italian parents, a family of musicians, Jean-Marie grew
up in Le Havre (France). Together with Natalie Shelar, they are
co-founders of the renowned groups The Detour Band and
Freewheelin'.
Equally at home in the bluegrass and country worlds, his
distinctive lead singing and evident delight playing the guitar
lends a special dimension to Turquoise.
Jean-Marie has played the major festivals in Europe and USA and
shared stages and applause with such notables as The Nashville
Bluegrass Band, The Del McCoury Band, Bill Monroe, Vince Gill,
The Osborne Bros. . .
